Prof David French is Professor of Health Psychology at the University of Manchester.  He has published over 180 articles in peer-reviewed journals.  He has received research funding of over £80 million from bodies including European Commission, MRC and NIHR.  He is co-PI with Prof Gareth Evans for the BC-Predict NIHR programme grant, developing an evidence base to inform a decision to implement risk stratified screening within the NHS breast screening programme.   He leads several other projects relating to breast cancer early detection, including examining psychological impact of receiving risk estimates or false positive test results, and optimising acceptability of innovations in early detection to women, healthcare professionals and other key decision-makers.

He was an author and Scientific Advisory Panel member for the MRC/ NIHR guidance on Development and Evaluation of Complex Interventions update in 2021 (third edition), recently published in the BMJ.  For Research Excellence Framework (REF) 2021, he was nominated by NIHR to serve on the Public Health, Health Services and Primary Care panel (from Nov 2020).  He has previously served on several NIHR and MRC research funding panels.   He was co-Editor for the official journal of the British Psychological Society: British Journal of Health Psychology for 5 years (2013-2017).  He was elected Fellow of the European Health Psychology Society in 2012.
